Enzymes for Young and Beautiful Skin, Part II
Even if you start out with a fabulous complexion, your skin will go through changes over the course of your lifetime. Hormone fluctuations, sun exposure, allergies, and infections can cause skin to become oily, dry, or break out in blemishes or rashes.
The good news is that these conditions respond quite well to enzyme therapy. Let’s take a look at two of the most common skin problems, dryness and oiliness.

Dry Skin
Skin has its own natural moisturizer called sebum, which keeps it soft and pliable. As you get older, however, sebum production slows down and your skin is more likely to become dry and lose its elasticity.
Among my patients, I’ve noticed that an inability to digest fats and a deficiency of essential fatty acids (EFAs) can aggravate dry skin. When the body doesn’t thoroughly digest the fats you eat, they form a coating over food particles. This interferes with hydrolysis, a process that uses water to split the chemical bonds in substances such as carbohydrates and proteins. Hydrolysis is vital to the complete digestion of foods.
The breakdown of fats is the responsibility of an enzyme known as lipase. This enzyme does its job with the help of bile—produced by the liver and delivered via the gallbladder. If you don’t produce enough lipase, you will have a deficiency of EPAs, which leads to dry skin.
EFAs—linoleic acid, alpha linolenic acid, and gamma linoleic acid—are the primary sources of energy for cells. They also build hormones and contribute to the integrity of nerve tissue. Plant seeds, such as walnuts, almonds, and pine nuts, are loaded with EFAs because they are nature’s most efficient energy storehouses.
EFAs are especially important to skin health because they not only lubricate the skin, they also protect skin cells against water loss. The more water your cells retain, the more likely your skin will remain smooth and supple. Adequate absorption of EFAs is necessary to maintain the structure of cell membranes throughout the body, but especially in the skin, hair, and nails.
Unfortunately, years of negative associations between dietary fat, weight gain, and heart disease have led people to believe that all fat is bad. As a result, most people’s diets don’t supply nearly enough EFAs. Yet numerous studies have shown that when people take EFA supplements, their skin becomes soft and smooth, their nails harden, and their hair becomes healthier and shinier.

To Banish Dry Skin
To heal and replenish dry skin, I recommend the following strategies:
•	Take a liver detoxification enzyme formula, a thyroid enzyme support formula or supplement, and a full-spectrum vegetarian digestive enzyme.
•	Increase your consumption of EFAs: raw organic nuts; seeds, especially ground flax seed or flax seed oil; fish oil supplements; and cold pressed oils such as olive oil or canola oil.
•	Increase your consumption of foods that contain zinc, which helps process essential fatty acids. The best sources of zinc are oysters, crab, chicken, turkey, beef, and lamb. (Remember that the proper digestion of these foods is necessary to free zinc for use by the body.)

Oily Skin
Unlike dry skin, which produces too little sebum, oily skin produces too much. This kind of skin tends to have a shiny appearance with enlarged pores. If your skin looks shiny when you first wake up in the morning, it’s probably oily. A sheen that develops later in the day may result from environmental or other factors.
The primary causes of oily skin are heredity and hormonal imbalance. The good news about this skin type is that it doesn’t show the signs of aging as quickly as dry skin. The bad news is that if you don’t care for it properly, it is highly susceptible to clogged pores and acne.
While enzymes don’t reduce sebum production, they do promote optimal digestion, which can help prevent acne breakouts. Efficient digestion also ensures absorption of nutrients that can aggravate oily skin when undigested, such as riboflavin (vitamin B2).

Banish Oily Skin
To keep oily skin healthy and acne-free, I recommend the following strategies:
•	Take a full-spectrum vegetarian digestive enzyme and a liver enzyme detoxification formula.
•	Include lots of nutrient-rich leafy green vegetables and fresh fruits in your daily diet.
•	Increase your intake of riboflavin from sources such as beans, nuts, wheat germ, and nutritional yeast.
•	Limit your consumption of fats, sugars, salt, and dairy products.
•	Avoid junk food, especially chocolate, soft drinks, and alcoholic beverages.
•	Refrain from cooking with oil and from consuming oils that have been subjected to heat, whether in cooking or processing. If you wish to use oil in your salad dressing, choose cold-pressed canola, olive, or flaxseed oil.
•	Drink at least ½ ounce of water per pound of body weight each day to hydrate the skin and flush out toxins.
If you follow these recommendations, you will have skin that is more healthy, vibrant, and youthful.

I wanted to share this testimonial of a patient I saw in my clinic that will demonstrate how BioSET can change lives- Eliminating food sensitivities is vital to one’s life.

We first started noticing a problem when he was a few months old and was starting to drink formula. He would get very congested. At that time his doctor opted to put him on a soy based formula. It helped. We stayed away from whole milk but let him have limited other dairy products. By about 18 months to 2 years he was diagnosed with asthma as well. Many nights I would sit up with him wondering if he would make it through the night. Or speed off to the hospital for a breathing treatment. It felt like we lived at the doctor office. He had lots of ear infections and illnesses and never slept through the night until he was at least 8 and still sleeping was always an issue. He was also diagnosed with ADHD at about 5 years of age. We changed doctors and this doctor felt she could help him. She was a general practice doctor not a pediatrician but we really liked her. She started by taking Josh off of all the most common allergy items like all dairy, soy, eggs, wheat etc. After a period of time she slowly added things back to see how he tolerated each item. Dairy was the one thing she said he could not have. She gave him a series of vitamins, minerals, fluoride etc things to take daily. She got him stronger and started letting him taste dairy here and there. I guess desensitizing him. It worked and he them began to enjoy dairy with no known ill effects. He was about 8. By this time another doctor has prescribed drugs for his ADHD. We noticed he became withdrawn and removed him from taking these drugs and tried to help him via diet. Then Josh went through puberty. He started having random or so we thought “attacks” we had a hard time trying to place what was causing these allergy attacks. They started getting worse and worse and we discovered dairy and eggs were the cause. At first it was anything with caseins and then as time went on any trace of dairy including cooking something by dairy would put him into a severe attack. An attack was itching throat and cheeks, tons of really thick mucus to the point he had trouble breathing. He would have some swelling in his throat and tongue as well. When he had an attack he would have to take a few benedryl and go to bed for many hours to even remotely be able to cope. The attacks got more severe and more often even though we read every label. He was already thin and began to lose weight. He was now 20 and painfully thin. 5’3” and weighed about 110lbs. His clothes hung on him. He felt eating was like playing Russian Roulette so he began to not eat very often. I worried. Because of our past experience when I heard a doctor on the radio talking about desensitizing treatments for food allergies I called. After talking with the doctor, the doctor would not see him as his reaction was too severe for the treatment. My son was wasting away and I was determined to find him help! A friend told me about doing treatments at home and food intolerance’s. I went to our huge bookstore to research and ran into a young lady that asked me what I was looking for. She told me about her experience with Dr Ellen and helped me find an older book Dr Ellen had written. I purchased the book and went home to study it. I must admit as I read the book I thought this is probably a bunch of bunk but I was willing to try anything. I was desperate so I called Dr Ellens office and after a discussion made an appointment. I had to convince him to to go as leaving home meant eating out and he had gotten to the point he never ate anywhere else but home and rarely left the house for long. When he ate out if he didn’t have an allergic reaction he had to run to the potty and his body would dump what he ate. It was very uncomfortable in public to have the best case reaction to be the runs. We traveled the 650 + miles to see if Dr Ellen could help. We scheduled an evaluation and 7 treatments over 4 days. Dr Ellen found tons of things he had a reaction to. She was honest to us and told us dairy was one of the hardest and she could not guarantee a complete recovery.

After the first visit we walked out the door and my son started quacking. He said I was wasting my money and nobody could help food allergies because that is what his allergist told him. We went back that afternoon and had another treatment. After this treatment he was VERY tired and went to the hotel and fell asleep. That evening we went to a restaurant where they put cole slaw (dairy) on his plate. The juice ran all over his food. This normally would have taken him out for the night and meds would have been required. He had a reaction but not nearly as bad. Switched meals with me and kept eating. WOW! He still did not believe he thought maybe it was a fluke. As the treatments continued he slept hard after each one. We began to see the difference but he refused as he really did not want his hopes up to be crushed. About 3 month later we went back for another round of treatments. Dr Ellen told us to go out and have butter and or white cheese. As we sat in the Italian restaurant and he ate a cheese stick made with real butter and parmesan cheese he was shaking he was so scared. He had very little reaction after a few bites and began eating more quickly. He was shocked and I cried. We came home and continued treatments at home but he got injured and his reactions started again. Not severe but started getting worse. So we went back for more treatments. He had years of fear built up to the reactions he had to most foods. So he not only had to overcome the actual allergic reaction he had to overcome his fear. When we came home he started eating dairy cooked in things. We found small doses at a time and treatments were making it better. He discovered chewing gum after he ate made a huge difference too. Here we are, 14 months after our first treatment. Josh has gained ten pounds and grown one inch. He also realized his dream. Eating a Cinnabon with NO reaction at all. He eats eggs almost every day and although he will not sit and have a glass of milk, he no longer fears having a reaction to anything he eats. He is still careful but not overly so. The worst reaction he has now is a bit of tingling and all he does is use a pressure point in his neck and it disappears.

Now a note from me a desperate mom searching for something to save my son to the Doctor that God sent us. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you have done for him. You gave him his life back and now he is able to pursue a dream he has had for many years. He enlisted in the U.S. Army. He no longer thinks you’re a quack, lol, in fact he feels he owes his life to you. You are his angel sent from heaven to give him a real chance at life. He can eat out without fear and now enjoys leaving the house regularly. You Dr Ellen are our miracle from above J

Thank you,

Valerie

P.S.!!! I just got a text from Josh. His first full day on base and he drank a glass of milk with lunch with no reaction! WOWZERS!!!!! He is cured!

Thank you thank you thank you Dr Ellen!

A good or high quality digestive enzyme supplement contains a broad spectrum of enzymes, rather like a multivitamin. The best products supply a blend of 13 different enzymes, which assist in digesting the various components of your food. Each is responsible for the breakdown and absorption of a particular type of nutrient. When reading the labels on enzyme products, the first thing to check is whether the enzymes come from animal or nonanimal sources. For example, some enzymes, including amylase, lipase and protease are derived from the pancreases of pigs or sheet. Although much of the research to date has involved these pancreatic enzyme supplements, they have limitations. For one, they are vulnerable to destruction by stomach acid. To prevent this, manufacturers usually apply a coating to the supplements, but in clinical studies, coated enzymes were less effective than those without coatings.

Another concern about animal enzyme supplements is that they work only a specific, limited pH range usually found only in the small intestine. Unfortunately, people whose digestion is compromised may not have the necessary pH levels to activate the enzymes. In comparison, vegetarian enzymes that is, those from nonanimal sources remain active over a broad pH range, which means they should work throughout the entire digestive tract.

The broad spectrum of these enzymes can break down all the primary components of food-proteins, fats, carbohydrates, and fiber. Animal enzymes are most effective at digesting proteins: while they help a little with carbohydrates and fats, they do nothing at all for fiber.

Vegetarian enzymes begin digesting food almost immediately after they enter the stomach. As they pass by feedback receptors farther along in the digestive tract, the receptors signal the rest of the body that it doesn’t need to produce as many digestive enzymes because some of the food is already broken down. This way, the body doesn’t expend as much energy on the digestive process. On the other hand, animal enzymes don’t get to work until food reaches the proper pH level, usually in the small intestine. By then, the body has already churned out extra digestive enzymes.

Manufacturers cultivate vegetarian enzymes in a carefully controlled environment that’s free of pesticides and other contaminants, while animal enzymes come from pigs that have been raised on genetically and chemically altered feed and treated with steroids and antibiotics. Also, because vegetarian enzymes can be more concentrated than animal enzymes, a single capsule can have more enzymatic activity. Generally speaking, you can get the same amount of activity or more from fewer vegetarian supplements.

Incidently, when you are shopping for enzyme supplements, check to be sure that not only the enzymes but also the capsules are vegetarian.

In addition to direct support of the skin, digestion, nutrient absorption, waste elimination, food sensitivities and toxic reactions influence skin health. Digestive enzymes break down food and facilitate the absorption of nutrients into the bloodstream. Eating wholesome organic foods with digestive enzymes can minimize free radical damage. As the body’s metabolic thermostat, the thyroid gland is important in regulating temperature and energy production, with a direct impact on enzyme activity and therefore skin health.

Neutralizing toxins that trigger free radical formation also minimizes free radical damage. The liver plays an important role in the elimination of toxic waste by filtering toxins from the blood. The colon is also critical to the detoxification process. Also, both protease (protein digesting) enzymes and probiotics support a healthy immune response and reduce the risk of infections throughout the body, including those related to acne.

It has been written that agave nectar may not be a healthy natural sweetener substitute. Instead it may be a highly refined form of fructose, that can contribute to disease. Agave may be found in foods labeled “organic raw” such as health fo0d bars and health drinks. Agave plants are in the lily family and for thousands of years natives to central Mexico used different species of agave plants for medicine. But the natives would allow this agave plant to ferment naturally, and they also boiled the plant for several hours to make a sweetener. But the agave nectar purchased in ths stores is neither one of these foods. The agave is a created sweetener, whose principle constituent is starch, (such as corn or rice). The process to make the agave starch into fructose and then sold as agave nectar is through a chemial conversion that alters the nonsweet starch into refined fructose.

And fructose is not what is found in fruit. Fructose has adverse effects on insulin action. It can actually have a decline in insulin sensitivity in the liver and later in peripheral tissues. Considering there is an increase in obesity and type 2 diabetes in the United States, this may well be because of the substantial increase in the amount of dietary fructose consumption from high intake of sucrose (Sucrose is made up of 50% fructose ) and high fructose corn syrup. Numbers of animal studies show: high fructose diets induce hypertension in animals; promotes atherosclerosis; raises triglycerides; raises LDL and VLDL. Fructose has also been reported to increase glycosylated hemoglobin more than any other sugar.

Warning : Many supplements do contain fructose. This added sweetener may be a health concern and not appropriate for diabetics. The new MicroMiracles chewable digestive enzyme does not contain fructose, it contains the natural alcohol sugar Erythritol as does the BioSET Chewable Digestive Enzyme

More will follow relative to this product. And it is an animal based enzyme. Those who know my work and have read my books and see BioSET practitioners for their health care do know my enzymes are strictly vegetarian and some now have the kosher seal.

Again more to follow relative the ingredients in this product producing sensitivities !!

In an article written in the medical journal "Thorax" by Dr. N.J. Wareham et al of Medical Research Council in Cambridge, UK reveals that modification of diet can reduce onset of asthma. It is reported that people who suffer with asthma tend to consume less fruits and have decreased intake of Vitamin C and manganese. It was also reported that blood levels of vitamin C were lower in people with asthma than their healthy counterparts.

So eat your raw meal each day, take your enzymes for good absorption of vitamins and minerals and eat more vitamin C foods. I have seen vitamin C to be extremely good for asthma. I have actually seen it stop wheezing associated with an episode of asthma almost immediately.

John Erb a research assistant at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, and spent years working for the government. In writing a book, called "The Slow Poisoning of America", he made a discovery. "
America".
In hundreds of studies around the world, scientists were creating obese mice
and rats to use in studies on diabetes and diet. No strain of rat or mice
is obese naturally, so the scientists had to create them. They make these
obese by injecting them with MSG when they are first
born. It seems as though the MSG triples the amount of insulin the pancreas creates; causing rats to become obese.
MSG is in so many of our foods. Just check out the various items in your cupboard.
Many foods that are fed to our children contain MSG under many different names.
(Other names for MSG: 'Accent' – 'Aginomoto' – 'Natural Meet
Tenderizer', hydrolyzed vegetable protein and natural flavoring)

The MSG manufacturers themselves admit that MSG is addicting and it addicts people to their products. It makes people choose their product over others, and makes people
eat more of it than they would if MSG wasn't added.

Consider your diet and read labels. Remember to eat one raw food meal a day. That will reduce the intake of MSG or other preservative automatically. Be careful to notice and watch what your kids are eating. Obesity is becoming epidemic and if we don't change this around, our children will develop health risks at earlier ages than we have ever known.

I have seen success with treating acne by recognizing food allergies. The most common food allergies are clearly the dairy products. Most regard allergy to dairy as causing bloating, and bowel irregularities. But there are other reactions that are just as common. And one of those is acne. Often a digestive enzyme with dairy food can reduce the reaction, but avoidance or minimizing is usually most successful. It can't hurt to try and the results speak for themselves
